President Barack Obama played to a Boston union crowd Monday by
joking that if Tom Brady needs a union, everyone needs a union.
"Brady's
free," Obama said at a Labor Day event. "Even Brady's happy he's got
a union. They had his back. You know if Brady needs a union, we definitely need
unions."
Patriots star
quarterback Tom Brady had his four-game suspension overturned by a federal judge
last week, marking a big win for both Brady and the NFL player's union against
Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Obama also used
the holiday -- originated to recognize the organized labor movement, but also
now used to mark the start of the campaign season -- to take a swing at
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, the White House hopeful who built his name
fighting unions in Wisconsin.
"He is
bragging about how he destroyed collective bargaining rights in his
state," Obama said to boos. "He says that busting unions prepares him
to fight ISIL. I didn't make that up. He said that."
